Ecuador south coast
A coastal cordillera runs along the coast and presents flora and fauna variations, according to the altitude. This cordillera runs from the south of the province of Esmeraldas (wet forests which are unique in the world) to Guayaquil. The highlands shelter forests that grow amidst fogs and drizzles. These forests generate water for all the nearby dry zones and crop zones.
Average temperature: 25ºC (77º F). Average rainfall: 3 000 mm or more in the northern Coast; up to 500 mm in the Santa Elena Peninsula (the country’s driest zone.) Bi-modal weather: Tropical rainfalls from January through June (even though it is warmer, this period is called “winter”); and dry from July through December. Beaches are lovely all year long (it is somewhat cooler from June to September.)
